IntegrityStar, November 2025 edition
In each IntegrityStar edition, we highlight frequently asked questions. In this edition we cover Q&As on UCF Policy 2-701 Drug-Free Schools and Workplace Policy. If you have a question that was not covered here, please direct it to University Compliance and Ethics at complianceandethics@ucf.edu.
Who does this policy apply to?
This policy applies to all members of the UCF community—students, faculty, staff, volunteers, vendors, contractors, and visitors—while on university property or while attending university-sponsored events.
Is alcohol allowed on campus?
Yes, but only in designated areas or at approved events. Individuals must be 21 or older, and consumption in public or common areas is restricted. Please also review UCF Policy 3-115 Alcoholic Beverages on Campus for additional requirements related to alcohol on campus and at university-sponsored events.
Can I use medical marijuana at work or on campus?
No. UCF maintains a drug-free workplace. Marijuana use is prohibited on campus or while performing university duties, regardless of medical authorization.
What should I do if a colleague, student, or I need help with substance use?
For Students: Contact Wellness and Health Promotion Services, the Student Health Center, or UCF Cares.
For Employees: Reach out to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or Employee Relations & HR Compliance.
What are the consequences of violating the policy?
Disciplinary actions may include required education, suspension, termination, and/or criminal prosecution, depending on the role and severity of the violation.
How do I acknowledge receipt of the annual policy notice?
Employees must confirm receipt of the notice at the time of hire, then receipt is captured automatically through annual completion of the Code of Conduct Refresher Training. Students must certify receipt before accessing grades each semester.
What if I’m arrested or convicted for a drug or alcohol-related offense?
Employees must notify Human Resources within 48 hours. UCF may take disciplinary action and is required to notify the appropriate federal agency if the employee is involved in federally funded research.
Can departments set their own alcohol policies?
Yes. Departments may adopt more stringent alcohol policies than those outlined by the university.
