This edition’s IntegrityStar Award is being given to Dr. Kathleen Richardson, UCF Trustee Chair, Pegasus Professor of Optics and Materials Science and Engineering and Florida Photonics Center of Excellence (FPCE) Professor at CREOL/College of Optics and Photonics where she runs the Glass Processing and Characterization Laboratory. Dr. Richardson was nominated for this Award by the Office of International Collaboration and Export Control (OICEC) in recognition of her outstanding commitment to export compliance within her lab where she oversees restricted programs. She consistently maintains proactive communication with OICEC which includes early engagement that allows OICEC to initiate required compliance reviews and allows for completion of related documentation early in the process. Additionally, Dr. Richardson has established a global compliance structure in her lab by requiring all members of her research team, regardless of their roles, to be trained in export controls and to be listed on all individual Technology Control Plans (TCP).  The approach ensures that her entire team is aware of export controls and thereby strengthens compliance by ensuring their familiarity with the steps that must be adhered to for all activities. Finally, Dr. Richardson has asked OICEC to provide regular refresher or updated training to her group in order to assure their continued and deepened understanding of the export controls.  This strong commitment to team education and proactive approach to export control compliance is why Dr. Kathleen Richardson is deserving of the IntegrityStar Award.
