IntegrityStar, November 2025 edition

This edition’s IntegrityStar Award is being given to Veronica Pak, Health Informatic Manager, Student Health Services. Ms. Pak is an exceptional compliance partner who consistently demonstrats a remarkable commitment to protecting patient privacy, strengthening compliance practices, and fostering a culture of privacy and respect. She enhanced engagement across the department by refreshing the annual HIPAA training with visual elements for improved comprehension and participation, and she actively contributed to the 2025 Data Privacy Day activities to raise awareness among staff and students. Ms. Pak improved oversight by increasing chart access monitoring to a bi-monthly review and developed a new standard operating procedure for the Patient Security Access Control (PSAC) function ensuring consistent application and continuity of patient privacy practices. She also partnered with various departments to standardize the Consent to Discuss protocol, establishing consistent communication standards that uphold student privacy and confidentiality, including protections related to parental access. Through these efforts, Ms. Pak has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to privacy, compliance, and ethical standards, making her an outstanding representative of Student Health Services and a highly deserving Privacy Compliance partner.
